Indigenous People ( – 1500)

Indigenous cultures include First Nations, Inuit and Metis
They observed different lifestyles, depending on geography (e.g. hunter-gatherer and agricultural)
Trade networks were established between these groups

European Exploration and Colonisation (1500 – 1763)

European explorers visited in the late 15th and early 16th centuries
The French established Quebec in 1608 and the fur trade grew
British explorers began to create their own colonies in the early 17th century, competing with the French
Their were many alliances and conflicts between Europeans and the indigenous peoples

British Confederation (1763 – 1867)

Following British victory in the French Indian war, France gave most of it’s territories. Loyalists during the American Revolution fled to Canada

Nationhood (1867 – 1945)

Canada expanded to the west, acquiring territories via treaties, displacing the Indigenous people

Modern Canada (1945 – )

Canada is a wealthy and diverse country
