Prehistory (0 – 600)

Bronze and iron age

Kingdoms (600 – 1767)

The Mon Kingdoms established city states around the Chao Phraya river from the 6th Century
The culture was influenced by Indian Buddhists
Between 802 and 1431, the Khmer empire ruled the central and North Eastern areas of Thailand
The Sukhothai Kingdom was founded by King Ramkhamhaeng in 1238
The Ayutthaya Kingdom was founded in 1351 by King Uthong and ruled the South East of Thailand
The Ayutthaya Kingdom absorbed the Sukhothai Kingdom in 1438
Ayutthaya Kingdom interacted and traded with Western countries
The Ayutthaya Kingdom fell after multiple wars with the Burmese

Thonburi Kingdom (1767–1782)

General Taksin reunited Thailand under the Thonburi Kingdom

Rattanakosin Kingdom (1782–present)

General Chakri deposed Taksin in 1782
Thailand was allied with Japan during WWII, but then switched in 1944
Recently Thailand has suffered from coups, in 2006 and 2014
